The flag of St George or flag of England is the central element in Britain’s Union Jack.
In the late middle ages, soldiers without livery would march in a white surcoat with the Cross of St George as their emblem or, if they had a livery, the cross would appear on an armband, with St George being the military saint and Crusader.
