In 1916, they arrived on the Western Front and fought in significant battles such as Fromelles and Pozieres, where the losses were devastating. With around 6,800 men lost at Pozieres alone, the toll on Australian soldiers was immense. By the end of the war, approximately 132,000 had been wounded and 46,000 had lost their lives.
